Is college education in India not world class?

(Collected)

Before saying whether college education in India is world class or not, I would like to tell about a few global personalities. Satya Nadella, the CEO of Software major Microsoft graduated from MIT in India. So did the new CEO of Nokia. Continuing the list Narayan Murthy(Infosys founder), Azim Premji(Wipro founder), Dr.Devishetty (leading Cardiac surgeon), Venkatraman Ramakrishnan(Chemistry Nobel Prize winner), Nithin Nohria (Harvard Dean) all had most of their college education in India. Barack Obama recently said in a speech that American students will have to work harder otherwise they would be overtaken by Indian students. Hence telling that College education in India is not world class one will be belittling ourselves in front of others.

The problem with College education in India is not only that of Quality. IISC is one among the top 20 universities in the world.4 IIT’s figure among the top 100 colleges in the world.3 IIM’s are among the top 20 management institutes in the world. Quality is present but only at very few places like the ones mentioned above and quality of intake into them are drastically low when compared to our college going youth.1 IISC,13 IIM’s, handful of IIT’s, NIT’s, AIIMS, MIT, etc produce quality students but they cater to not even 1% of students. For such a large nation like ours, these are just not enough. Creating such institutes is not easy because we lack Infrastructural capabilities and there is shortage of Teachers, Professors and lecturers.

Moreover College education system in India is oriented more towards marks and grades than on knowledge. This leads to superficial knowledge. A more industry oriented and knowledge oriented education system will produce quality youth for the country. This requires a major transformation of our Education system. Industry and Private sector will have to take a more active part in the education system to accomplish this transformation because they will ultimately be benefitted with quality students to hire from. Tie-up with global varsities for bringing their branches to India can solve part of the problem.

We should feel sorry to see scores and scores of Engineers and Doctors opting for GRE, GMAT and other competitive exams to pursue their higher education abroad. Most of them end up working and settling there leading to Brain drain.

RANE Committee had suggested to give reservation to marhathas n muslims. It was only to attract the votes in front of elections. The result of total drama is now in front of us. MAHARASHTRA is the state in which marhathas are in majority. Muslims are also under category of OBC & they are getting benefit of that. Both were not require reservations. But it was foolish decision taken by that time government. How can a society in majority put up a fight for reservation in the same state? It is really blot for forwarded maharashtra. Politicians are only busy in putting a image of struggle to get some things, but the actual picture is different. It is deception of whole maharashtra. There were many leaders earlier in the history of maharashtra which had the thinking of future. But this is not a thing today. Politicians, not leaders, are deflected towards a very wrong way. CORRUPTION is main motto behind it. They are busy in fillin up their houses, making their generation rich. But what about other 12 crore maharashtrians. Aren’t they part of whole system? This is happening very badly because we are supporting them blindly, only keeping in mind the benefit of our generation or caste. Basically reservations based on religions must must be cancelled. But they are unwilling to do this. MAHARASHTRA & whole INDIA will be powerful in the world, when religion based RESERVATIONS would get cancelled…

‘Bhai, ek pizza’ Naina ,MBA Student, ordered her favourite menu & added to swara ‘What will you take?’
‘No I have my tiffin’
‘Are you mad to have a tiffin daily in college?’ Naina, asked scornfully to Swara.
‘No.,Naina.But this is very bad to eat Pizza, berger daily.’
‘Why are you preaching a sermon to me?’
What is the meaning of this conversation. One part, almost 65%, of India is surrender to fast food. India is becoming a new hub of fast food. Are we aheading towards wrong direction?
Fast food creates big medical issues. These things are well known to us but we are not letting these seriously. We Indian are those who used to have daily pizza, berger (65% of indians, especially college students) daily in india, but when the situation do come to visit foreign country like US, UK We everytime ask for indian dishes, even availability of such fast food there. What a contraversy!
We are forgetting our traditions. We are getting infected by THE GUST OF FOREIGN TRADITION. Mr. Atual Kulkarni, a famous marathi actor, visited a 600 year old temple in a small village for having rest. Many villagers crowded around him. He chatted with them regarding many things but at the last they asked him for donation in point of renewal of temple. Crowd expected donation of large amount because they want to collapse whole 600 year temple & want to build new temple with marble. Foreign countries try to preserve their traditions but what we are doing now? If we don’t think over these things in next some years, India will lost the image of TRADITIONAL N INCREADIBLE INDIA…

Higher Education: The Problem with Priorities

Reblogging…

ACADEME BLOG

It’s been interesting to watch over the years how priorities emerge on college and university campuses.

Some develop organically, whether in service of an academic program, to meet a perceived need, or at their best, to fulfill an institution’s strategic plan. They are part of the business of evolution, matching and balancing people, programs and facilities to available resources and aspirations. In these cases, colleges and universities differ little from other growing enterprises offering a quality product in a competitive marketplace.

The good news is tempered somewhat by the fact that these same strengths breed at best an incremental mindset that limits the potential of a college to be nimble, entrepreneurial and creative. For many internal constituencies – notably mid-level staff – creativity is a strange new world that threatens turf that many feel compelled to defend. For these administrators, it’s a “cat and mouse” game, in which the staff…

Is Economics a Science? Dogmatic Economics Vs. Reflective Economics..

Mostly Economics

Fixing the economists Blog has this interesting post on the topic.

This is one of the most important philosophical questions regarding economics- is it a science? Econs surely believe and have tried to model  their ideas as Science like with laws and theories etc. This is met with criticism as these laws are not universally applicable and are inconsistent.

But then what is science at the first place? There is huge disagreement on the same. The blog defines science and then sees whether economics fits as a science:

Corruption- Erge from inside

Hello everyone..!!! How are you? I am getting very less time to talk to you through this my  new way of communication. But I will have more time further in future.  So we were talking about corruption… Am I right?

Firstly What does the term corruption mean? It is the act done with intention to take some advantage with the way inconvenient to official or we can say true way. It sometimes termed as act against a law. But what do you think, why do corruption really occur with this huge rate? There are so many causes which are really indistinguishable to use. They are complex and many in the number.

  1. Political elite who involves themselves in interest relates programs & policies rather than things which are nationally important.
  2. Mindset of people to be against corruption. We usually talk about things that we should be against corruption & so bla bla blaaa.. But when the time does come to act individually, we become confident to be against law.. I am not blaming to you… But think about your situation when you caught by traffic-policeman. We did you do at that time? You might have done the thing what we are talking about….
  3.  low salaries of government officials compel them to resort to the road of corruption in a highly inflationary economy,.
  4. Very complex laws and very imperfect implementation of the same.
  5. Time of Election level again becomes summit. I will say each politician do spread their money to purchase you rather than your valuable vote. We usually becomes happy at the moment, but can’t even think that we are making foolish ourselves only. These things happens usually more & more times. But can’t do any further to stop.
  6. Huge population along with illiteracy again leads to make people to do thing against laws.

so here are some causes of actual corruption happening around us. So it must have some remedies. That we will see some days after…. Guys due to the time limitations I am not able to post long enough. But you don’t forget  … Be Happy….& try to laugh all time… TRY MORE but DON’T QUIT…… Have a nice time…

  • Typically, the word calls to mind political corruption, which could refer to a politician who, rather than letting the voters decide to elect him, will bribe and steal his way into office.
  • A corrupt company, for example, may only promote individuals who perform personal favors for their boss.

Corruption in a university setting may take the form of lecturers accepting cash for higher marks.
